-
At the end of the 17th century, the king's intendant decided to erect this triumphal arch, a copy of the gates of Paris, in honour of Louis XIV.
Designed by the architect François d'Orbay, a pupil of Mansart, this Arc de Triomphe was built on the site of one of the gates of the city's old ramparts.
Of particularnote are the medallions, the low relief and the attica (summit) tinted in ochre and yellow, plus the royal crest which has been restored to its former Franceblue colour.
