An imposing 18,500 m2 , it was a symbol of the city’s prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries, with its buildings in the architectural style developed by
Haussmann in Paris. As beautiful by day as by night with its bluish lighting, the square is the epicentre of the Ecusson’s huge pedestrian area.
It is at the heart of the tramway network with a stop where lines 1 and 2 drop-off and pick-up a steady stream of passengers.

Installed in 1797, the statue of the Three Graces has moved several times. The original is now under the entrance staircase of the Opéra Comédie while a replica was created for the square in 1989.

All around you'll see street artists, people on the move, and others taking a leisurely break at one of the many outside cafés.
